Privacy Policy
This page explains what data Daily Trivia Quiz ("we", "us") collects when you visit dailytriviaquest.com, how that data is used, which third parties are involved, and what choices you have. We keep data collection to the minimum needed to run a daily quiz with streaks and friend leaderboards.
What we collect
- Account information: When you sign up, we store your email address and chosen username so you can log in, sync your streak, and compete with friends.
- Quiz scores: Your daily score, guesses, and streak are saved so you can view your history and appear on friend leaderboards.
- Profile picture: If you upload an avatar, the image file is stored so it can be shown to you and your friends.
- Local progress: As a guest, your streak and today's result are stored only in your browser's local storage — they never reach our servers.
- Usage data: We use privacy-friendly analytics to understand how the site is used (pages viewed, country, device type). This is aggregated and does not identify you personally.
- Technical data: Standard server logs such as IP address, browser type, and timestamps, used for security and abuse prevention.
We do not collect payment details, phone numbers, precise location, or contact lists, and we never sell your personal data.
How we use your data
- To run the daily quiz, save your result, and calculate your streak.
- To show friend requests, friend leaderboards, and shared scores.
- To authenticate you and keep your account secure.
- To reply to emails you send us.
- To understand which pages are popular so we can improve the site.
Cookies
Cookies are small text files stored by your browser. We use them to keep you signed in, remember your consent choice, and measure site usage. You can delete or block cookies in your browser settings at any time — the quiz will still work, but you may be signed out and your preferences reset.
Third-party advertising
We may display advertising supplied by Google and its partners to keep Daily Trivia Quiz free to play. Please note the following:
- Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on a user's prior visits to this website or other websites.
- Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this and/or other sites on the Internet.
- You may opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings.
- You can opt out of some third-party vendors' use of cookies for personalised advertising at aboutads.info/choices or youronlinechoices.com.
- If you are in the EEA, UK or Switzerland, our consent banner lets you choose between personalised and non-personalised ads. You can change your mind at any time by clearing your browser cookies and reloading the site.
For more information about how Google handles data on partner sites, see Google's privacy & terms page.
Other service providers
We rely on a small number of providers to run the site: a hosting and database provider that stores your account, scores and avatar; Google, if you choose to sign in with a Google account; and an analytics provider for aggregated traffic statistics. These providers process data on our behalf and are not permitted to use it for their own purposes, other than as described in the advertising section above.
Data retention
Account data and score history are kept while your account is active. If you ask us to delete your account, we remove your profile, scores, friendships and avatar. Aggregated analytics that cannot identify you may be retained. Guest progress stored in your browser stays until you clear your browser data.
Your rights
- You can play as a guest without creating an account.
- You can request a copy of your data, correct it, or ask for your account to be deleted by emailing us.
- You can withdraw cookie or advertising consent at any time.
- If you are in the EEA or UK, you have rights under the GDPR including access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability and objection. If you are in California, you may request disclosure or deletion of personal information under the CCPA/CPRA. We do not sell personal information.
Children's privacy
Daily Trivia Quiz is intended for a general audience and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has created an account, email us and we will delete it.
Security
Passwords are hashed and never stored in plain text, all traffic is served over HTTPS, and database access is protected by row-level security so you can only read your own data and what your friends choose to share.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the site evolves. Significant changes will be reflected in the "last updated" date below, and continued use of the site means you accept the updated policy. See also our Terms of Use.
