Every day three brand-new riddles are written for that date and checked against every riddle we have already used, so the same riddle never comes round twice. Everyone playing that day gets the same three, so you can compare answers with friends. Answers are short and easy to spell, and small typos are forgiven — you never lose a point for a slip of the keyboard.

How to solve a riddle

Most riddles work by describing an ordinary object in language that normally belongs to something else — usually a person, an animal or a place. The trick is to notice which words are doing the misdirection and translate them back into plain description.

• Take every word literally. "Has hands but cannot clap" is not a person, it is anything with parts named hands — a clock.
• Look for the contradiction. Almost every riddle contains a line that seems impossible. That line is the clue, not the noise.
• Think about everyday objects first. The answer is far more often a candle, a shadow, an egg or a keyboard than something exotic.
• Say it out loud. Wordplay riddles often depend on how a phrase sounds rather than how it reads.
• Use the hint before you guess wildly. The hint narrows the category without giving the answer away.

Why three riddles a day

A short daily set keeps the game a habit rather than a time sink. Three riddles take about two minutes, which is enough to get the satisfying click of a solved puzzle without turning into an endless scroll. Because everyone gets the same three riddles on the same day, they also work as a conversation starter — sharing your emoji result shows how you did without spoiling any answer for the person you send it to.

Each day's set mixes classic lateral-thinking puzzles, wordplay and "what am I" descriptions, and every riddle is checked so the answer is a single, common, easy-to-spell word. Answer matching is deliberately forgiving: capitals, spacing and small typos are all accepted.
